GroepsDruk is still being built

We're building it in the open: a small group is already using the app while bits of it get reworked every week. That's deliberate, but you should know what you're walking into.

If you join, count on running into something now and then. Let us know via contact, at the bottom of the front page: it's what makes the app better.

Changelog

What's been built, newest first.

One builder, his own pocket money, no growth hacks. This is what came out of it over the past weeks: camera, gallery, nudges, four languages and a pile of things that were broken.

GroepsDruk is in the invite-only phase, so the numbers count from 0.0.1. There's no 0.9: 1.0.0 is the launch, the moment everyone can get going with it.

  1. v0.0.9

A real app on your iPhone, and goals that count by the week

The first version that's on testers' iPhones as an app, through TestFlight. A lot got rebuilt for it: your goals count by the week or the month instead of by the day, you play your jokers yourself, and the app keeps working when you have no signal.

    • New

GroepsDruk is available as an app in TestFlight, Apple's channel for apps that are still being tested. Create an account in Safari on your iPhone and the app then shows you the way there. The app is made for the iPhone; on an iPad it runs as an iPhone app.

    • New

Log in and sign up with your Apple account, in the app and on the website. Already have an account? You'll land in it as long as you let Apple share your email address. The login screen now asks first: Apple or email.

    • Better

Your goals count by the week or the month instead of by the day. Your streak runs in weeks or months, and your score looks at the periods that are finished. Everyone started with a clean slate at the switch; your old check-ins simply stay in your calendar.

    • New

For a new goal you choose week or month, and a start and end date if you like. The start date can be in the future too: I'm starting in two weeks. An i button explains how periods, score, streak and jokers work.

    • New

Goals with no target, just for fun: you take part without a score or a streak. They sit at the bottom under a heading of their own, and if you want to give one a target later, you can do that under Edit goals.

    • Better

Under each goal on your dashboard, one line tells you how you're doing, like "2/7 this week", and whether the week can still be saved. Score and streak sit at the top, with a flame that grows with your level. Tap it and you see the whole ladder, with your rung lit up.

    • New

You save up jokers with your check-ins and play them afterwards. Missed a week or a month? The goal tells you how many jokers will still fix it and how long you have left. Confirm once and you go straight on to checking in.

    • Fixed

The automatic joker is gone. With daily goals it burned one joker after another, day after day, without saving anything, and it posted a note in your name.

    • New

Pause: put your goals on hold for a while. Those days don't count and don't break your streak. You'll find it under Settings > Account and personal details and under the three dots on your profile, together with the time zone your goals run on.

    • Better

You can check in on the same goal more than once a day. A day still counts once, but that second workout no longer has to wait.

    • New

Rejecting now has consequences. If enough friends reject a check-in, it no longer counts and friends no longer see it. If the tally changes back, it returns.

    • New

Your profile shows a chart per goal of your periods: made, missed or skipped. And in Messages you can see which friends are falling behind with a week that can still be saved, so you know who could use a nudge.

    • New

No signal? In the app on your iPhone you just carry on. It opens with the last known state of your goals, a little light at the top tells you you're offline, and you make a check-in as usual: it waits on your phone and goes out by itself as soon as there's a connection again. Until then there's a small clock on the goal, because it only counts once it's in.

    • New

The chat works without signal too. You can read the latest messages stored on your phone, and whatever you send, a photo or video included, gets a small clock and goes out by itself once you're back online.

    • Fixed

Without a connection the app says "no connection" instead of "Load failed" or "something went wrong". Your friends list, your notifications and your details no longer show an empty list or zeros as if that were the real state, and votes and reactions on stories no longer get lost without a word.

    • Better

The chat reads like a chat: time and ticks inside the bubble, messages sent close together as one block, one date heading per day and a button to jump to the bottom. New messages slide in and your reaction gives a little bounce, unless you have "reduce motion" switched on. In the dark theme your own messages are no longer bright orange.

    • Fixed

In long conversations you couldn't see your newest messages. The chat now opens at the latest message and loads older ones as you scroll up.

    • Better

Typing in the chat on your iPhone feels like a real app. The keyboard stays open after sending, the text box moves up together with the keyboard and grows up to five lines, and the grey bar with arrows and "Done" is gone.

    • New

You can now also send a moment from your gallery in a conversation. Pinning to your profile works straight from your gallery, without opening the photo first, and you can swap a pinned moment for another one right away.

    • Better

The bar at the top is the same on every tab, so you can invite friends from anywhere. Swipe between tabs and the orange in the bottom bar follows your finger. And the opening animation only plays after you log in, so you get to the check-in button sooner.

    • New

You delete your account yourself in the app, under Settings > Account and personal details; until now you had to send an email for that. It becomes invisible straight away, and within the cooling-off period you restore it with one button. How long that lasts and what goes after it is in the privacy policy. The settings menu got tidied up along the way, from eight rows to six.

    • New

When you sign up you now also fill in your first and last name, so friends can find you by your real name. And after the link in your confirmation email you see a screen saying it worked, even if your mail app had already opened that link beforehand.

    • New

Share a profile, yours or someone else's, through the three dots. A link like that, an invite link and the link in your confirmation email now open the app on your iPhone instead of Safari.

    • New

You get a notification when someone accepts your friend request. And tapping a notification about a request takes you straight to where you accept it.

    • Fixed

On the iPhone no notification appeared while the app was open, which made it look as if notifications sometimes didn't arrive. And after logging out or switching accounts things could stay quiet for a while without you noticing; now they come in again straight away.

    • Better

The house rules and terms are on groepsdr.uk as version 1, which is why the app asks everyone to agree once more. If you use the app in English, German or French, those links open the English version.

  2. v0.0.8

Have your say, and screens that stop lying

You can now send in ideas and vote on what gets built. And quite a few screens turned out to say something other than the truth when your connection played up.

    • New

An ideas board. Send in an idea from the app, and vote on what's already there. What happens with it you can read on groepsdr.uk, without logging in.

    • New

Pinch to zoom in on photos in the gallery, and double-tap to jump to the spot you tap. Swiping sideways at the edge just moves on to the next one, so you never get stuck.

    • Fixed

Six screens told you something other than the truth when your connection played up: "No friends yet" while you had two, "No media yet" with five items, and a valid invite that came in as invalid. Now they say that loading went wrong, with a button to try again.

    • Fixed

If you started the app with no connection, a spinner kept going that never left again, even once you were fully back online.

    • Fixed

Between 28 and 30 August not a single notification arrived: no chat messages, no friend requests, no likes, no progress. That's fixed, and a silence like that can't repeat itself unnoticed.

    • Better

The app talks to the server a lot less. A cold start went from 41 to 28 requests, and of the 68 requests in a two-and-a-half-minute session 25 were literally duplicates; that's now zero. With the app in the background it goes completely quiet.

    • New

Report something and from now on you hear what came of it. There's a reference with it, so you can come back to it.

    • Better

If you pick a goal name that doesn't become a shared community, it simply stays your goal and you keep the people who were already in it. Before, a group like that fell apart at that moment.

  3. v0.0.7

Reporting, blocking, and an app you can actually read

The biggest block of this month: you can report or block someone. And the app finally has a typeface of its own, because until now every device just picked one itself.

    • New

Report or block someone, from a profile or in the middle of a story. Blocking removes the friendship, and after that the two of you don't run into each other again.

    • New

Settings > Blocked users shows who you have blocked and how to undo it. It shows the @name and not the display name, because what you block is an account.

    • Better

When reporting you now see what's still missing: how many characters your explanation is short, and whether the tick box still needs doing. Before that, the send button just stayed off in silence and you were left guessing.

    • Under the bonnet

Blocking was gone through from top to bottom once more after it was built. What came up has been fixed.

    • New

GroepsDruk has a typeface of its own, and it ships with the app. Before that there was a font name in the code that was never loaded anywhere, so every device filled that in itself and Windows saw something different from an iPhone.

    • Better

White on orange was hard to read. Every coloured surface with text on it has been recalculated and now has dark letters: from 2.85:1 to 6.24:1 on the buttons. That touches every sent chat bubble, button and badge.

    • Fixed

Password managers didn't recognise the fields when signing up or changing your password, and a long generated password was wrongly told it was "too weak". Both fixed. Under the fields there's now a list that ticks off live what you don't meet yet.

    • Fixed

The bar at the bottom (Messages, Dashboard, Discover) stayed Dutch whichever language you picked. Now it translates along, just like the whole notifications block in your settings and the "you're now friends" message.

    • Fixed

Opening your own invite link showed you yourself, as if you were inviting yourself. Now it simply says that it's your own link.

  4. v0.0.6

The rules written down, and an honest warning

GroepsDruk isn't finished, and the app ought to say so itself. Also: the first house rules, and a camera that understands a laptop looks wider than a phone.

    • New

House rules and terms of use, written in plain language, because terms nobody reads aren't an agreement. GroepsDruk is for 16 and over.

    • New

An alpha notice at the top of your settings, with the whole story behind it: what alpha means, what you can expect and how to let us know something. Deliberately not a bar across the whole app, because a warning you see every day is one you stop reading after a week.

    • New

One address for anything you want to get off your chest, from a question to a report, and it's in the same place in the app as it is on the site.

    • Fixed

Checking in from a laptop gave you a landscape photo in a portrait app. The camera now crops the square middle out, and the viewfinder shows exactly that square.

    • Better

A photo or video that doesn't quite fit gets a blurred, enlarged version of itself as a background instead of black bars. In the story, in the gallery and on the camera's review screen.

  5. v0.0.5

Gone is gone, and everything slides over everything else

Screens are no longer separate destinations but layers, and you can finally throw your own media away. Because your friends are the jury, that has consequences for your check-in.

    • New

Profiles open as a sheet over the screen you're on. The dashboard stays underneath, scroll position and all, and you just drag it shut again. Arrive through a link and you still get the full page.

    • New

Throw media away in the gallery. One item through the three-dot menu, or hold a tile and tick several; sharing and deleting sit in the same bar at the bottom.

    • Better

Throw your proof away while your story is still running and that check-in withdraws itself: with no proof there's nothing to judge. If your story has already ended, only the image goes and the check-in stays.

    • New

Pull down to refresh on the dashboard. Deliberately a long pull: the page gives like a spring and the spinner stays until everything is in.

    • New

A one-off tour of three slides when you've just arrived: goals, check-ins with a jury, and the three tabs with a swipe hint.

    • New

Badges under your name: a flame crown for the owner, a violet diamond for premium, plus ambassador and OG.

    • Better

You put a story away by swiping down, exactly like in the gallery. Up stays for the emoji reactions, so a sloppy judging swipe doesn't close anything by accident.

    • Better

Camera: stabilisation on, the 0.5x wide angle added (during filming too) and the shutter turns red straight away instead of half a second later.

    • Under the bonnet

Checking in runs through the server, and without a photo or video no check-in comes through.

    • Better

Photos in chat get compressed the same way a check-in does: 3.6 MB became 450 kB. Go over the ceiling and you get a proper message instead of an incomprehensible upload error.

    • Fixed

Videos sometimes wouldn't play on a second device. Fixed, and the existing files have been brought up to date.

    • Fixed

A photo you threw away right after checking in still hung around in your own story. That was the cache. Fixed: gone from your story is now really gone, restart or no restart.

  6. v0.0.4

Filters, far smaller videos, and you can choose afterwards

    • New

Camera filters: Original, Bright, Warm, Cool, Film, Retro, Fade and Black-and-white. You see them live in the preview and they're baked straight into your recording, so nothing has to be calculated after filming.

    • New

You pick the destination after recording, right up until you send. By default it goes to your story; a goal is something you choose deliberately.

    • Better

Videos are 65% smaller at exactly the same 1080p. The bitrate wasn't set anywhere, so the encoder put three times more into it than was needed. A full recording cost 40 MB and now costs 12.

    • New

Share your own media from the gallery: WhatsApp, Messages and “Save to Photos” are in there right away. We share the actual file, not a link that expires after a short while.

    • Fixed

In the gallery the sound of the previous video kept playing, over a photo as well. And your recording no longer grabs your bluetooth microphone: that sounded hollow and thin, so it always records with your phone's own mic.

    • Fixed

Videos in the gallery never got a real tile, only a grey film strip. Now the app takes a frame from your recording itself, and every existing item has been given one retroactively.

    • Under the bonnet

A security round after an internal check: the points found have been fixed.

    • New

groepsdr.uk: a product page of its own, separate from the app. Yes, this site you're on right now.

  7. v0.0.3

    The gallery

Checking in now means saving too. All your proof ends up in one place.

    • New

Every check-in goes into your gallery automatically, with no save button. A grid of three with month and year headings, and a full-screen viewer with caption and score.

    • New

Three layers: the archive (six weeks, five years with premium), favourites with a heart, and up to three pinned moments that stay for good.

    • New

Pinned moments sit on your profile: up to three portrait cards, videos play by themselves and always without sound. A friend's pins are clickable and open in the same viewer.

    • New

Goal tags on your media, with a filter to go with them. On a photo you see which goal the check-in belonged to, and you can filter your gallery on one goal or several.

    • Better

Gestures in the gallery viewer: dragging sideways moves through, dragging down closes and dims along with it, a tap pauses and a double-tap toggles the sound.

    • Better

Bottom sheets have become the same everywhere: up from below, a little tab at the top, drag down to close. And scrolling in a list no longer fights with dragging it shut.

    • Under the bonnet

Notifications are sent from the app itself. Not a single notification was lost in that switch.

  8. v0.0.2

    Four languages

    • New

The app speaks Dutch, English, German and French. Your language choice lives in Settings under Appearance and travels with your account to another device.

    • New

A nudge button in the chat header, so you can nudge without leaving the chat.

    • Better

Tap a nudge in the overview and you jump to the chat with that person. The “falling behind” hint has become more subtle: the red is only on the button now.

  9. v0.0.1

    Swiping and nudging

The two gestures the app revolves around, both taken apart and rebuilt.

    • Better

Swiping in stories works the same everywhere. Your own story, something you've already judged or a joker goes into a bare mode: every direction is simply next.

    • Better

A quick short flick counts now too. Before, you had to drag almost a third of the screen, and that felt like “it isn't registering”.

    • New

You can nudge any time, not just when someone is falling behind. Two flavours: a general nudge from Messages, or a nudge about a specific goal from someone's profile.

    • New

Nudges you've been given arrive as an animation with fist impacts, including whatever text came with it.

    • Better

Anti-spam on nudges: there's a short wait between two nudges and a daily maximum per conversation. Go too hard and the answer is “Easy there 😄”.

    • Fixed

Notifications in the app fell under the Dynamic Island and couldn't be swiped away. Now they can, with a close cross that's always there.

  10. v0.0.0

    Where it began

Five months of building with nobody watching. In that time nothing changed for anyone, so this isn't a list of changes but a zero point: the state of the app on the day the first people came in. Everything below was new to anyone opening it for the first time back then. How it got that far: it started on 18 February 2026 as part of a personal toolbox with a to-do list, a calendar and a spending book. On 16 March a goal tracker was added, a day later you could add friends to it and send a photo as proof, and on 30 March the whole thing got its name. In April the rest of the toolbox went out and GroepsDruk was what was left.

    • New

Goals you set yourself: a name, a colour, how often per week, and a few jokers a month for the days it doesn't work out. Your score looks at the last six weeks, so one rotten week doesn't drag you under straight away, and your streak counts in days.

    • New

Checking in means delivering proof: a photo or a clip of twenty seconds at most, with a caption. The camera is in the app itself and behaves like your phone's camera: hold to film, swipe up to lock, pinch to zoom, and there's a self-timer in there so you can capture yourself.

    • New

Your friends' stories stay at the top for 36 hours. You swipe through them and give your verdict with the same movement: agree or disagree, or an emoji back. If someone plays a joker, there's no vote on it. A few times a day you can also share something that doesn't belong to any goal.

    • New

The auto-joker. Forget to check in when your week can no longer be saved without one, and the app plays a joker itself and owns up to your friends on your behalf, with a request to take the mickey out of you.

    • New

Chatting with a friend, where a reaction to someone's check-in ends up as a message in that conversation. Nudging works with a ready-made line you tap, tied to a goal, and arrives as a message rather than a system notification.

    • New

Three screens you swipe between with your thumb, with the dashboard deliberately in the middle: messages left, Discover right. Under Discover you browse the goals other people are working on, and if yours isn't there you create it yourself and are a member of it straight away.

    • New

You can only get in on an invite. You have a link of your own with a QR code that you let people scan or forward, and whoever comes in through you is your friend right away without sending a request first. Everyone can bring in a limited number of people, and your link replaces itself regularly.

    • New

The front door: a sign-up page of our own with a confirmation email from our own address, and at your first login you pick an @name. That name is who you are in the app from then on instead of your real name, and you can look people up with it.

    • New

GroepsDruk sits on your iPhone as an app with an icon of its own, no longer only as a website, and notifications come in even when the app is closed. On startup you see a short animation instead of a spinner.

    • Under the bonnet

Your check-in photos and videos can only be seen by you and your friends. The app opens with what you saw last time and then refreshes in the background, so you're not looking at a loading spinner first.

Nothing goes back further than 18 February 2026: before that the app didn't exist.
